Enfield Chamber Orchestra (formerly Enfield String Players) was founded in 1942 by Jack Hickford and previous conductors have included Grace Rossiter, Amanda Denley, Stephen Bingham, Stuart Donaldson, David Littaur and Peter Broadbent. A number of distinguished soloists have performed with the orchestra, including Stephen Isserlis, Jack Brymer, Elena Duran, Alfredo Campoli, Philip Jones and Malcolm Messiter. We have introduced many new works to the public, including a number of compositions by our patron, Frank Bayford. In 2007 we became registered with the Charity Commission as a charity.
EChO Patron and local composer
An early fan of EChO was the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, who wrote:
Away, away......
To the silent wilderness
Where the soul need not repress
Its music lest it should not find
An EChO in another’s mind;
While the touch of Nature’s art
Harmonises heart to heart.

Today is for itself enough.
